tastawiyiniwak
Pronunciation: TASS-TAW-WIN-EE-WOK
The name tastawiyiniwak, is the nêhiyawak (Cree) term referring to the LGBTQ2S+ community. The name was given through ceremony to an Elder to name the ward. Its rough English translation is “in-between people.” The name hopes to promote conversation about gender and sexuality, and an opportunity to reflect on how we may better support and uplift all people.
