Pronunciation: Gar-ee-he-o

The Michel First Nation was a culturally diverse Band composed of Iroquois, Cree, and Métis backgrounds. Iroquois traders married Cree and Métis women along trading settlements of the northwest. Michel First Nation was formed from these unions. Karhiio is a significant word for the Michel First Nation. It means “tall beautiful forest.”
