Sspomitapi
Pronunciation: SS-POH-ME-TAH-PEE
Traditionally in Blackfoot cosmology, it is believed that the sun is the father, Napi (Creator) and the moon is the mother. Many stories acknowledge the sky and the stars, which are often referred to as Sky Beings. They were sent to earth by Napi to help the Blackfoot people and the bison have a reciprocal relationship. It’s also believed they brought sacred teachings which are still used in their ceremonies today. Ssopmitapi means Star Person.
