Sustainable Food Edmonton
Sustainable Food Edmonton is a non-profit charitable organization who initiates and supports projects and programs to encourage the building of community through urban agriculture. We connect communities and kids with their food, how it’s produced, and the planet that makes it all possible.

What issues do you care about in the 2025 municipal election, and why?
At Sustainable Food Edmonton, we care deeply about how Edmonton supports food security, green spaces, and resilient communities. The issues we’re most focused on this election include:
- Food Security & Affordability
- With 1 in 3 Albertans relying on food banks, we need policies that strengthen local food systems, reduce barriers to healthy food access, and recognize community gardens as essential infrastructure—not just recreation.
- Stable & Equitable Funding for Community Initiatives
- Non-profits like ours require predictable, long-term funding to plan effectively and respond to growing community needs. Short-term cuts to food programs directly harm vulnerable residents, and we want to see stable commitments upheld.
- Climate Resilience & Green Infrastructure
- Edmonton’s gardens, parks, and natural spaces are part of our climate adaptation strategy. Investing in green infrastructure helps mitigate urban heat, improves air quality, supports biodiversity, and creates healthier, more livable neighborhoods.
- Community Empowerment & Equity
- Food is more than sustenance—it’s about belonging. We want to see the City invest in grassroots initiatives that empower newcomers, seniors, and renters, ensuring that every Edmontonian has access to safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces to grow, share, and connect.
Our Call: We urge candidates to prioritize food security and green community infrastructure as part of their platforms, and to commit to working alongside organizations like Sustainable Food Edmonton to build a city where no one goes hungry and every neighborhood has space to thrive.
