What issues do you care about in the 2025 municipal election, and why?

Improving frequency and coverage

Having a transit route nearby that arrives every few minutes significantly improves accessibility to all parts of our city. It makes using our transit system more approachable and intuitive, making it easier for people to keep choosing transit as a transportation option. As a result of Edmonton’s quickly growing population spurring growth both within and at the edges of our city, transit service will continue to be spread thinner and thinner across Edmonton, leaving core neighbourhoods underserved, and many new and densely populated neighbourhoods with no service at all.

That’s why this election, Edmonton Transit Riders cares about:

  1. Increasing public transit funding to catch up with the growth our city has already seen, and to keep up with future population growth.
  2. Investment into expanding and renewing our transit fleet so that ETS has the buses it needs to operate our transit system and provide a comfortable experience to riders.

Improving reliability and on-time performance

Too many of our city’s most used transit routes suffer from consistent delays. When buses don’t show up when they’re expected, it reduces riders' trust in the system, increases their travel time, and can pose health risks to those waiting for prolonged periods in the freezing cold or hot sun. As our roads get busier and busier, implementing improvements to infrastructure and signalling will be necessary to ensure those doing the most to reduce traffic congestion, don’t end up stuck in it.

That’s why this election, Edmonton Transit Riders cares about:

  1. Getting our BRT network built, improving reliability, speed, and access to some of our city’s biggest employment centres and destinations like Whyte Avenue, Calgary Trail, Chinatown, West Edmonton Mall, and 97th Street.
  2. Addressing transit rider delay in areas not covered by our mass transit system through high-quality transit priority measures, and the inclusion of these measures in the planning of new neighbourhoods from the beginning.
  3. Getting our current LRT plans completed, and aggressively pursuing and planning for further expansion
