Edmonton's Food Bank

We exist "to be stewards in the collection of surplus and donated food for the effective distribution, free of charge, to people in need in our community while seeking solutions to the causes of hunger." We operate independently from government.

What issues do you care about in the 2025 municipal election, and why?

Food insecurity is a symptom of poverty and is not the root cause. While municipalities may not influence income support policies or health care, cities shape the systems that impact people's daily lives: transit, recreation access, community safety, and inclusion. Municipal leadership matters.

Again, we know that many of the policies and programs which target poverty and hunger belong to the Federal and Provincial Governments. However, the impact of poverty and hunger is felt locally and there are things that we can do. Our questions are:

  1. Are you willing to work with Edmonton's Food Bank by deepening your understanding of our work and programs that supports vulnerable Edmontonians?
  2. Do you know what programs and services are offered by Edmonton's Food Bank – food and beyond?
  3. Do you understand that there are Food Depots and food programs supported by Edmonton's Food Bank in EVERY city ward? This means, we are providing services in your ward.
  4. Do you need more information on food insecurity and initiatives taking place in your ward?
  5. Are you willing to support Edmonton's Food Bank programs like community gardening and collective kitchens to reduce food security and create opportunities for food literacy?
